Senior Certificate exam registration deadline extended for learners who want second chance

The Department of Education has extended the registration deadline to 31 March 2021 for those who want a second chance to write their matric exams.

“This opportunity is for those learners who had previously failed their matric or perhaps only need to write one or two subjects to quality for their matric.

Learners who want to improve their results are welcome to register as well,” the department said in a statement.

More information on the programme can be found on the DBE website www.education.gov.za or from the district education offices.

TO APPLY, YOU WILL NEED THE FOLLOWING:
1. Complete the registration form neatly
2. Attach certified copies of ID or passport (foreign candidate) proof of address, highest qualification (example- grade 9 report)

3. If the candidate is younger than 21 years, he/she must write and attach a motivational letter.

Candidates can either register online http://bit.ly/3pnnCzf or obtain an application form at Overstrand LED office, Hawston Thusong Center, Kleinmond LED office, Stanford LED office, Qhayiya School, Zwelihle Primary School, Lukhanyo Primary School and Gansbaai Academy.

To submit your completed application form, please visit the Overstrand LED office, Hawston Thusong Center, Kleinmond LED office, or the Stanford LED office, where your application form will be scanned and submitted to the Department. For assistance with tutorial and sessions please contact the Overberg Education District Office of the Western Cape Education Department in Caledon on 028 214 7300.

Learners who had previously dropped out of school and are now over 21 need to present their Grade 9 results and they too can have a second chance opportunity to attain their matric results.

CRITERIA:

  • Minimum requirement to qualify:
  • South African citizen and foreign candidates residing within the Overstrand.

ADULT LEARNERS WHO ARE 21 YEARS AND OLDER

  • A General Education and Training Certificate (GETC) for Adult Basic Education and Training (ABET)
  • A grade 9 (standard 7) school report, stating that they have passed grade 9\
  • A recognized equivalent qualification obtained at NQF level 1, which requires two official languages.

ADULT LEARNERS WHO ARE 21 YEARS AND OLDER WHO HAVE PASSED SOME SUBJECTS FOR A SENIOR CERTIFICATE OR NATIONAL SENIOR CERTIFICATE WHO:

  • Need to complete a Senior Certificate qualification
  • Have an incomplete National Senior Certificate and whose School-based Assessment (SBA) has expired
  • Candidates who did the NSC in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 may apply

IN EXCEPTIONAL CASES, YOUTH WHO ARE 18 TO 20 YEARS OLD AND WHO ARE NOT IN SCHOOL CAN APPLY TO THE HEAD OF EDUCATION IN THE PROVINCE TO WRITE THE EXAMS IF THEY HAVE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:

  • A General Education and Training Certificate (GETC) for Adult Basic Education and Training (ABET)
  • A grade 9 (standard 7) school report, stating that they have passed grade 9
